Training Requirements
Initial Certification Requirement: Initial 8-hour NAIC Partnership training course. |
Resident Producers: North Carolina allows resident producers to take a North Carolina 8-hour NAIC Partnership course, or they may take an 8-hour NAIC Partnership course from another state to fulfill North Carolina’s requirements. |
Non-Resident Producers: North Carolina has adopted training reciprocity. This means that non-resident producers may take a North Carolina 8-hour NAIC Partnership course OR they may take an 8-hour NAIC Partnership course from another state. |
Refresher Certification Training: North Carolina requires a 4-hour course every biennial compliance period thereafter. |
Additional LTC Requirement: Special License required: Special License required. Producer must hold a Medicare Supplement/LTC license. The prerequisite to hold this license is the Accident, Health, and Sickness license. Producer must complete 10 hours of pre-licensing LTC/Medicaid education and pass a state examination. A non-resident is exempt from the pre-licensing education and exam, but must apply for the LTC license. To do so, they must be qualified for LTC in their resident state and hold a North Carolina Life & Health License. For more information about this requirement, please review the Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP) Licensees Frequently Asked Questions from the NC Department of Insurance/Agent Services Division. |
What do the Edition A and Edition B mean?
The self-study version of the 4-Hour Refresher Training is offered under multiple Insurance CE approval IDs to help learners satisfy CE non-repetition requirements.
LTC renewal training must be completed every two years. Most states do not allow the same CE course to be repeated within a single compliance period, and some also restrict repeating the same course in subsequent compliance periods. To ensure you can consistently earn CE credit toward your license renewal, we offer two distinct editions of the 4-hour self-study course that are designed to be taken alternately.
To avoid limitations in your resident license state, we strongly recommend alternating between Edition A and Edition B for each renewal period.
If you have previously taken training from our catalog, you can check which edition you completed most recently by reviewing your continuing education transcript or your course history under My Courses (found in the upper right-hand corner of the website). If you’re unsure which edition to select, contact us — our team is happy to help guide you.
